Paternity Test - Blood Bonds

They say there are no ties as strong as family ties, and a Paternity Test could result in a family relationship you will cherish forever.

Family is at the very heart of life as we know it. Families provide financial, emotional and psychological support. Good, strong families help us grow up into functional adults in all our complexity and they can teach us the meaning of love. For those men who have gone through life without children, a positive paternity test result can strike fear and shock into their hearts - but it can also, if approached in the right way, warm their hearts and enrich their family life.

Paternity Test - The Positives

Research shows that men who are single and alone have higher death rates then their married counterparts. It's been established that unmarried men die younger, and part of this is explained by the emotional and psychological impact being single can have on long-term health. If you're a single man facing up to positive paternity test results, it could turn out to be a relationship that in fact saves your life. Having emotional security and family bonds alongside a good occupation, income and education all increase your lifespan.

Paternity Test Reveals Grown-Up Daughter

For one single unmarried man who discovered he had a grown-up daughter after a paternity test, the flourishing relationship that unfurled filled a hole that had been previously empty. The daughter was a result of a relationship he had, but before the child was born her mother fell in love and married another man, who believed the child was his. Once the daughter grew up she had doubts about who she thought was her father after hearing about the previous relationship. A paternity test proved that the single man was indeed her biological father. The paternity test brought the two together as they got to know each other and developed an amazing relationship.

Paternity Test - Embracing the Results

Although neither the daughter nor father thought the paternity test would show what it did, both embraced the results and felt positive about finding each other. Although the relationship came with inevitable difficulties and issues, for them the paternity test offered a lifelong relationship. Emotional and psychologically, strong family relationships can impact on a man's physical and mental wellbeing. It's thought that men in successful family units are less likely to suffer from heart attacks and strokes. If you have good social relationships you tend to be healthier. A paternity test could open up doors to enriching relationships as well as improve the quality of a single man's life.

Paternity Test - Calum Best’s Baby?

George Best, the 1960’s footballing legend, was also a well known lothario with the ladies. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree it would seem as his son, Calum, is at the centre of a Paternity Test demand.

According to a report in the Sun, George Best’s son, Calum, is at the centre of a paternity test debate after model, Lorna Hogan, claimed that he was the father of her daughter, Amelia. The model claims that Calum Best fathered the child the night before his father’s memorial service was carried out in Manchester. Since hearing the news that he was being claimed to be the father, Calum Best demanded that a paternity test be carried out to prove that he is indeed the father; something the mother is all to happy to do as she is adamant that he is.

Paternity Test – Like Father Like Son

The case for a paternity test against Calum Best came as little surprise as the self-confessed ‘sex-addict’ is famed for his promiscuity. However, the son of the footballing legend is entirely open to the idea of the paternity test and he stated to the Sun, “I’m in contact with the mother and we’ll do a paternity test as soon as possible. I guess if I am a dad then I need to take responsibility.” Lorna Hogan, the baby’s mother, claims that the pregnancy wasn’t planned and she only discovered that she was pregnant some time after her encounter with Calum Best in Manchester. Ms Hogan stated to the Sun, “It was never planned, but that’s no excuse for him to abandon the baby. I’ll give him all the proof he needs. There’s no doubt Calum’s her father. Amelia even has the same shaped face, chin and ears.” So, if the paternity test is as much as a formality as the mother seems to believe, there may soon be another Best out there.

Paternity Test – An Accurate Test

When it comes to providing irrefutable evidence of whether or not someone is the father of a child, it is of little surprise that a paternity test is the first port of call. This type of test, which samples DNA from the father and the child, is extremely accurate and a paternity test can discount a man from being a father with a 100% success rate and establish whether he is the father with a 99% degree of accuracy.

Paternity Test - Basketball Star Asked For 3rd Paternity Test

Michael Jordan, one of the greatest players that basketball has ever seen, faces a dilemma of a different kind now that he has retired; he faces a third Paternity Test after an American woman claimed he fathered her child.

A paternity test is an extremely accurate method of establishing fatherhood, so, the fact that Michael Jordan is being asked to carry out a paternity test for the third time is a little out of the ordinary. Looking deeper into the case, however, may shed light onto why the paternity test that had been carried out previously didn’t bring an end to the matter.

Paternity Test - Establishing Who’s The Daddy

The use of a paternity test is commonplace when it comes to determining fatherhood and the fact that it is so accurate makes it strange that basketball star, Michael Jordan, was asked to perform a paternity test for a 3rd time. A paternity test can categorically rule out a man from being the father of a child and predict with 99% certainty if a man is the father of the child.

Paternity Test - Third Time Lucky?

In the case of Michael Jordan, a 35 year old Meadville woman, Lisa Miceli, claimed that Jordan is the father of her 4 year old child but the basketball star’s lawyers claim that the first two paternity tests rule him out. Jordan filed a harassment suit against the woman but this didn’t stop her from requesting a third paternity test being carried out. Speaking to the New York Post, Jordan’s lawyers stated, “There is not going to be a settlement. Mr. Jordan is not the father of her child, and we're not going to engage in any discussions on that.” As such, it seems unlikely that the request for a 3rd paternity test will be granted. However, if the judge does, for whatever reason, allow the third paternity test to go ahead and it proves that Michael Jordan isn’t the father again, this will surely go down as one of the strangest cases in paternity test history.

Paternity Test - Attorney Sues Birkhead

Although it was dubbed the battle over the 'billion-dollar baby', the Paternity Test for Anna Nicole Smith's baby may backfire financially.

It became one of the biggest Hollywood stories of the decade. When Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith was found dead of an overdose, shortly after her eldest son also died of an overdose, it meant her young baby could be the heiress to a small fortune. Everyone it seemed stepped out of the woodwork to demand a paternity test - with a string of men claiming to be the girl's father. Cynics wondered whether the fact the child had been dubbed the ‘billion-dollar baby' had anything to do with the flurry of paternity tests that ensued.

Paternity Test - Birkhead is the Daddy

But even when a paternity test revealed that Larry Birkhead was in fact the daddy, even though Howard Stern's name was on the birth certificate, the long custody and court battles haven't ended there. Birkhead is already facing financial turmoil as a result of his paternity test. His ex-attorney, Debra Opri, has filed a lawsuit against him for not, she claims, paying his legal bills during the paternity dispute. The dispute was finally settled with a paternity test, but it seems the on-going financial wrangling is set to continue.

A Matter of Life and Death

Legal court cases over money are haunting Nicole Smith in life and death. Alive, Anna Nicole Smith spent years in court battling to get her share of her ex-husband's fortune. She married the millionaire oil tycoon in his eighties. He died shortly afterwards and the battle over his will began. And now, the legacy has been passed on to her baby daughter as a paternity test and disputes plague her life before it's barely begun.

Seeking Paternity Test

Larry Birkhead is being sued by his attorney, who also sued Anna Nicole Smith when she was seeking a paternity test for her daughter Dannielynn Hope. Howard Stern had also claimed to be the father. A judge in LA ruled in favour of Birkhead after a paternity test put the issue finally to rest.

Paternity Test - Probate Proceeding

Now a probate proceeding is taking place to sort out Smith's assets, debts and taxes. It's thought that Dannielynn will be the sole beneficiary. She could also inherit the trust of Smith's late husband Howard Marshall II. His oil legacy is thought to be worth $500 million. As the paternity test revealed Birkhead to be the girl's father, it's likely that he will become the guardian of her estate.

Anna Nicole Smith's baby to undergo paternity test

A Bahamain judge has ordered a DNA test for Anna Nicole Smith's six-month old baby, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, say news reports, to determine the identity of her father.
Since Anna Nicole Smith's death in a Florida hotel in early February, a custody battle is being played out between freelance photographer Larry Birkhead, an ex-boyfriend of Nicole Smith, and Howard Stern, the last companion of Smith. Meanwhile, Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, also wants custody for she feels she can give little Dannielynn a more stable home.

The child is currently living with Howard Stern, who has been asked by the courts not to leave the country until the custody issues are sorted out.

One reason for fathers crawling out of the woodwork could be the fact that Anna Nicole Smith's baby may inherit millions from Smith's late husband billionaire J. Howard Marshall II. Anna Nicole Smith has been in a legal tangle with Marshall's family over his fortune.

Mel Gibson Wants Paternity Test

Mel Gibson has demanded that his pregnant girlfriend take a paternity test. The Braveheart star is keen to determine if he really is the father of Oksana Grigorieva’s unborn baby. “Mel really loves Oksana, but he’s a businessman, too. He really had no choice but to ask for a DNA test,” an insider told American tabloid the National Enquirer.
Gibson, 53, apparently agreed to seek a DNA test after his grown children and close friends persuaded him to make sure the baby is a rightful heir to his estimated $1 billion fortune. “Some of Mel’s closest friends in his church convinced him that it’s the practical thing to do. There’s just too much at stake,” the insider added. “Mel doesn’t believe that Oksana has been with anyone else, but after hearing misgivings from his children and friends, he decided he had no choice. Oksana wasn’t happy about it, but once her baby is born, there will be a paternity test. Mel was sick and tired of the questions about Oksana’s loyalty, but it finally got to him,” adds the source, referring to rumors that Oksana had been seeing her ex, award-winning music-producer David Foster. “He didn’t want to bring up the subject of a DNA test to her, but he realized he had no choice. Some members of Mel’s family believe Oksana is a gold digger. It’s hard for Mel to hear that. He says he’s agreed to the DNA test not for himself, but for his family.”

Lindsay Lohan’s dad’s paternity test postponed

Lindsay LohanWashington, July 18: Actress Lindsay Lohan’s father Michael Lohan will have to wait a little longer to find out whether 13 year old Ashley Kaufmann is his biological daughter or not as his paternity test has been delayed.

Lohan is doubtful that Ashley is his daughter, and is anxious to take the test.

However, the company that was going to carry it out, has now told Michael that it will not be able to proceed with test without a court order.

"I got a letter saying I need something from the court before they''ll process anything. And I didn''t get that before. So, now I have to go back to my attorney," E! Online quoted Michael Lohan, as saying.

Ashely’s mother Kristi Kaufmann is insisting that the teen is Michael’s daughter, and that she conceived when the two had a fling while he was separated from then wife Dina.

"The timing is just off. If she''s mine, I''ll take responsibility. But I wasn''t with her nine months before Ashley was born," he said.

"But I''ll do whatever it takes to find out. Everyone will know the truth soon," he added. (ANI)

13-year-old dad’s paternity test results worth millions

Alfie with newborn Maisie, who he hopes to prove as his daughter with a DNA test

London: Schoolboy Alfie Patten, 13, who is believed to have fathered a baby with his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman, 15, may make millions by revealing the results of his DNA test live on TV.

If reports are to be believed, Alfie’s father Dennis wants him to declare the result on a talk show. According to the Daily Star, the 45-year-old has been hawking his son’s story to the highest bidder. He is even said to have openly bragged about trying to make as much cash as possible.

Alfie agreed to the DNA test after two other boys—Richard Goodsell, 16, and Tyler Barker,14—claimed that they could be the real father of the baby girl, Maisie. Chantelle, however, has been insisting that she never slept with any other boys.

‘Alfie a victim of big scam’

Serious doubts that Alfie Patten is the dad of nine-day-old Maisie Roxanne have been raised by a close friend of schoolgirl mum Chantelle Stedman’s parents. Clive Sim, 39, claimed that Chantelle’s mother Penny had ordered her 15-year-old daughter to deny sleeping with anyone but Alfie to cash in on their story.

He says Chantelle confessed to her half-sister Jodie O’Neill that Penny told her to insist she had lost her virginity to little Alfie. Clive said: “They know that Alfie being the dad makes a better story. I think there’s a big scam going on here.”

Clive said: “Alfie may not be an angel and nor is Chantelle. But at the end of the day they are only children and it is the adults around them making bad decisions based on money, not their welfare.”

Clive made further shocking claims that Chantelle told Jodie shortly after giving birth: “It’s not Alfie’s baby, I think it’s his brother Joe’s.” He said that Jodie said Chantelle admitted to sleeping with five boys around the time she conceived, including Alfie and his 16-year-old brother.

DNA test ordered to confirm paternity

CLAIMING PATERNITY: When Khader saw Rajesh at the Kollam Juvenile Home on Monday.

KOLLAM: District Judge S.S. Sathesachandran on Monday issued orders for conducting the Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid (DNA) test for proving the paternity of a 15-and-a-half-year old deaf and dumb inmate of the Juvenile Home here. Rajesh has been at the home since 2001.

On Monday morning, a native of Haripad, Abdul Khader, employed in Mysore arrived at the Juvenile Home claiming that Rajesh was his son. He narrates that his wife, Khadeeja, had delivered a son at a Mysore hospital on May 27, 1991. On the third day, the infant went missing. A case in this connection had been registered at a police station in Mysore.

The efforts of Mohammed Humayun, counsellor at the home, brought Mr. Khader to Kollam in the hope of being reunited with his son.

On being produced before the District Court, the Judge was dissatisfied with Mr. Khader's explanation.

This prompted the Judge to order the DNA test. Mr. Humayun said that the test would be conducted at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Biotechnology in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday and the results would be available on Wednesday.

Tamil actor put through DNA test in paternity case

Maverick Tamil film actor Mansur Ali Khan was taken to the government General Hospital in Madras on Sunday where a DNA test was performed on him in connection with the paternity charge against him.

Khan, a well-known film villain, had been arrested during the countrywide general strike on December 11 when he and his fans attempted to play cricket before the Raj Bhavan to express their support to the stir. He had been lodged at the Vellore central prison.

Following an order by the Madras high court, the actor was later arrested in the case relating to the paternity charge levelled against him by his former employee, Sneha Sharma.

Sharma had alleged that when she had been working under him, he had taken her to a five-star hotel where he sexually exploited her after giving her a cool drink mixed with an intoxicant. Her male child, Mahboob Ali Khan, was fathered by the actor, she had claimed.

After the test, the actor was taken back to the Vellore prison.

Paternity Test - Eddie Murphy Takes DNA Paternity Test

A paternity test revealed that Eddie Murphy is the father of a baby daughter born to ex-Spice Girl Mel B.

The Spice Girls were the biggest girl band in history. It's no wonder then that since their split all of the women have remained prominently in the public eye. And with three out of four of the former pop stars having children, it's hard to open up a celebrity magazine without seeing their yummy mummy status. But for Melanie Brown, otherwise known as Scary Spice, it hasn't been plain sailing. Mel B has had trouble with a paternity test, lawyers and the courts ever since giving birth to her baby daughter.

Eddie Murphy Denied Paternity

Ever since her pregnancy, Mel B claimed that Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy was the father, but he flatly denied. Only a paternity test would reveal the truth. But on Dutch TV the actor announced his break up with Mel B and said he wasn't the father of their then un-born child. Mel B was determined that a paternity test would reveal otherwise. When Murphy was asked by a TV reporter if he was excited at the impending birth he replied: “Now you're being presumptuous because we're not together any more…And I don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn't jump to conclusions, sir.”

Paternity Test - Unveil the Truth

In recent magazine articles Melanie Brown has expressed her disappointment in the actor for refusing to take responsibility for their child. And a recent paternity test however proved she was right, confirming Murphy was indeed the father of their baby girl Angel Iris.

Paternity Test leads to Paternity Battle

Because of Murphy's refusal to agree to paternity, the paternity test was necessary as the ex-pop star has said she may have to resort to legal action to get Murphy involved in his daughter's welfare and upbringing. The DNA paternity test unfailingly revealed he has a parental duty in the eyes of the law. Brown has always insisted Murphy was the father despite his repeated public denial.

Public Paternity Battles

Mel B pursued a singing and acting career in Los Angeles after the Spice Girls, where she met Murphy and fell head over heels in love. The paternity test proved the child was Murphy's - Mel B's second child. The paternity test and ensuing paternity battle is bound to be unpleasant. It's hard to know what psychological impact such public paternity battles have on the children in question.

Paternity Test - A Social Revolution

The availability of the Paternity Test has sparked a social and parenting revolution.

Today’s family is very different from that of 50 years ago. The diversity in family make-up, together with a change in the roles of mother and father may have served to make us feel more independent and in control, but have also contributed to a significant change in the fabric of our family lives. Today:

  • 40% of marriages end in divorce
  • Couples live together and have children without marrying
  • Same-sex couples are legally able to marry and can have children
  • Some mothers are putting off having children until their late thirties
  • There is still a high percentage of teenage pregnancy and motherhood
  • Women are choosing to have children through sperm donation - with no father involved

Advances in social inclusion and medical science mean that women in particular have more choice about how they live. They can have careers, and put off having children until later in life. They can have a child without being in a relationship, or they can find themselves as single parents because of divorce or separation.

Does a Child Need a Father?

Some schools of thought maintain that fatherhood is now less important than ever - men are marginalised because women don’t always need them for financial support, and are reduced to being sperm donors, with no place in the family life. Like everything, however, fatherhood is a many-sided object:

  • Fathers can take additional time off work to spend with their children at birth
  • Flexible working allows fathers to spend more time with the family
  • More fathers are staying at home whilst the mothers go out to work
  • Fathers are often hounded for child support payments when a partnership breaks down
  • Fathers have to rely on the mother for confirmation of paternity

If a mother chooses to tell a man he is the father of their children and he has no reason to doubt her, he will love and care for the child, and pay for its upbringing, even if the relationship breaks down. Until recently, he had no way of challenging the mother’s claim with any accuracy.

All that has changed with the increasing availability of the paternity test. Within a few days, the father can be certain about parentage one way or the other, which may liberate him from a costly process, or destroy the relationship he has already built up with his children. A paternity test can provide the father with the evidence he needs to gain access to his child, or can shatter his illusions about his family. There are some men who are as desperate to be fathers as other men are desperate for their freedom - which is not that much different from 50 years ago - except now they have the power to find out about their responsibilities without a shadow of a doubt using a paternity test.

Paternity Test - A Shark’s Tale

According to a report in the Independent, a Paternity Test may solve a riddle of how female sharks can reproduce without the need for mating. So, the mystery of immaculate conceptions in the deep blue sea may soon be solved.

After studying sharks in captivity, many scientists had been confounded about how female sharks were capable of giving birth without having to mate. However, according to the report in the Independent, scientists have been able to use a form of paternity test to establish the reasons behind the fairly unique ability that female sharks have.

Paternity Test – Making the Breakthrough

According to the report in the Independent, a team of scientists based in Northern Ireland and the United States made a breakthrough when studying the Hammerhead sharks that they had in captivity. A hammerhead shark that they had been studying gave birth without having mated with a male and after a paternity test was carried out on the newly born shark, it was found to contain no trace of any paternal DNA. This allowed the scientist conducting the research to postulate that sharks are capable of reproducing asexually due to their use of the rare parthenogenesis method. Speaking to the Independent, Dr Paulo Prodohl, of Queens School of Biological Science, stated, “The findings were really surprising because as far as anyone knew, all sharks reproduced only sexually by a male and female mating, requiring the embryo to get DNA from both parents for full development, just like in mammals.” However, the use of a paternity test was able to show that this was resolutely not the case.

Paternity Test – Theories Behind the Mystery

The scientists behind the breakthrough regarding shark’s asexual abilities initially believed that the female shark could have got pregnant prior to being bought into captivity and had somehow stored the egg for 3 years before fertilising it in the aquarium. However, after a paternity test was carried out on the offspring, it was shown to display no paternal DNA whatsoever and the DNA only matched the mother’s; which rules out earlier mating or hybridisation. Unfortunately, however, this type of asexual reproduction may have negative implications for the continued health of shark populations. Speaking to the Independent, Dr Prodohl stated, “Unfortunately, this occurrence is not benign because it results in reduced genetic diversity in the offspring since there is no new genetic variation introduced from the paternal side. The resulting baby shark therefore gets a double-dose of genetic disadvantage.”

Paternity Test - A Royal Mystery

In 2002, the BBC reported that James Hewitt denied rumours he was Prince Harry’s father. Only a Paternity Test would unveil the truth.

Some people may believe that only a paternity test would finally put to rest the persistent rumours that Prince Harry is in fact James Hewitt’s son. But back in 2002, Hewitt said there was no need for a paternity test because there was ‘no possibility’ that Harry could be his.

Should Hewitt Have a Paternity test?

The former cavalry officer, who became a reality TV star, was Princess Diana’s lover and admitted he was with her for a long time. However, a paternity test is not something that he believes is necessary despite the fact many people have commented how Harry’s looks compare to his own. Hewitt told the Sunday Mirror that Prince Harry was already walking before he even began seeing the Princess of Wales, which means a paternity test would not be appropriate. The couple were in a five year secret relationship, but Hewitt said he has never encouraged the comparisons between himself and Harry.

Paternity Test and Dispute Causes Upset

Prince Harry’s paternity has been a big issue of contention in the tabloid press, but Harry was two when the couple began their affair. It’s thought that the gossip about a paternity test and Harry deeply upset the Princess when she was alive. The red hair that many felt Harry shared with Hewitt was also said to be a Spencer family trait.

Did Harry Request a Paternity Test?

But according to USA Today, a book marking the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana’s death entitled After Diana, suggests that Prince Harry himself was concerned about the issue. He apparently asked for a DNA paternity test. The book once again addresses the long-discussed accusation that Hewitt was his father. The American author, Christopher Anderson shockingly suggests that the 22 year old prince may not in fact be third in line to the throne. However, no paternity test has been undertaken and there is no evidence that Harry is not a Windsor. Anderson’s book however is still stoking the rumours ten years on, he names witnesses who in fact say Diana and Hewitt were lovers before, not after, Harry was born.

Anderson believes Hewitt and Harry share looks and mannerisms and that only a paternity test would finally put the matter to rest. Bookmark and Share

Paternity testing: The Need

Looking at the past can in many cases give you a picture of what the future is likely to be like. And in that spirit, looking at the past of paternity testing – from a time when it was basically a research technology with few applications outside the laboratory to a point in time when it is considered a mainstream biomedical technology - we can make a number of predictions on what the future of paternity testing is likely to shape up.For one, we can confidently predict that demand for paternity testing is likely to grow. As more and more people (and especially men) become sensitized on the workings of paternity testing, we are likely to see more and more of them coming forward to request a paternity test to ascertain that the people they present proudly as ‘their children’ are indeed their offspring. The future society is also likely to be more open to such steps of courage, which in current society would be seen as distrustful in a family situation, that where the children’s mother is likely to feel that her man doesn’t trust her should he venture to request for such a paternity test. What we are likely to see is an openness where a request to have the children undergo a DNA test (from the man) won’t be seen as distrustful, but rather simply as an attempt to know the truth, which ‘sets free.’ Now the idea of women being open to suggestions from their man that their children undergo a DNA test might seem far-fetched, but there is no denying that society is fast becoming more and more open to novel ideas. We can also predict that cost of paternity testing is likely to fall. With current developments in biomedical technology, we can expect (in the foreseeable future) a situation where it will be possible to produce very cheap disposable kits through which anyone with an interest can conduct a DNA test at their convenience and on their own, upon reading a few instructions on how to go about it. This would be a major development, because a huge component of the current considerably high cost of a paternity test goes to the payment of the people who conduct the test, seeing that with the relatively modest technology commonly available today, the DNA test normally has to be conducted by a high skilled professional in a highly equipped laboratory. New applications for paternity testing are also likely to be found in the future. Indeed, it is so hard to foresee a point in time when for instance, no man will be willing to take responsibility for a child before undergoing a DNA test with the child, just to be sure that the child is indeed his. This will be a time when women will have been sexually liberated to the extent that men are liberated today, and where it will be considered ‘only fair’ that a man ascertains the paternity of a child before taking parental responsibility for it. And while this might sound like the stuff science fiction is made of, one might actually be amazed to learn that some couples in the so-called ‘open’ relationship are already considering these types of arrangements, where paternity is first ascertained before paternal responsibilities are assumed.

Swab based DNA test to establish Paternity Relation now common in India

A test to prove paternity whether a man is someone's father is known as a paternity test.A paternity test involves looking at the DNA of a child in order to check the identity of his or her father. Paternity tests are sometimes carried out when a woman has had more than one sexual partner around the time she conceived (got pregnant) or because the father of the child is denying that the child is his. Sometimes paternity tests are requested by the court which is known as court-directed. This means that paternity needs to be provided as evidence in a legal case. Some time also Immigration department ask to show the proof of paternity which is actually DNA testing result. With current developments in biomedical technology, we can do by disposable sample collection kits through which anyone with an interest can conduct a DNA test at their convenience and on their own, upon reading a few instructions on how to go about it. This would be a major development, because a huge component of the current considerably high cost of a paternity test goes to the payment of the people who conduct the test, seeing that with the relatively modest technology commonly available today, the DNA test normally has to be conducted by a high skilled professional in a highly equipped laboratoryDNA test samples can be collected from family members by simply swabbing the inside of the cheeks with a special swab. This is quick and painless. DNA paternity testing involves the comparison of the DNA sequences for man, child and in many cases the mother. We each have 23 pairs of chromosomes, half of which we inherit from our mother, the other half from our father. If a match is found between a child's DNA and the man's, there is no doubt that he is the biological father. Having a sample of the mother's DNA can help by removing her DNA from the equation. But there is always option of Mother less relationship testing for Father and Child.

Easy Way To Do Paternity Testing At Home

Can paternity testing be carried out at home? Is there any cost implication? Here’s an article about the importance of paternity testing and how it will benefit a lot of children around the world.
The topic of paternity testing is somewhat a difficult topic to understand by most people. It is not a normal issue that you can talk with colleagues when having a drink together. However, when you have no other choice but to clarify the relationship between the actual father and the child, you better have a great understanding on this topic.
Presently, the dna testing for paternity is not that expensive like the good old days. Not all testing are cheap and easy to get. Some costs for this type of testing can range from reasonable to a large amount of cash in your pocket, but it all depend on what kind of testing and for what level of the scrutiny is. Also, costs for testing generally vary from lab to lab depending upon the size and type of the specimen to be tested. This type of testing does not require a substantial amount of blood sampling from the father in question or the child. For your information, there are three different companies that provide paternity testing; you can do a general search online to find the companies in your area. Companies offering the dna analysis must be trusted to perform the task by all the rules and regulations of the state they reside in for now.
The growth of adoption reunions are very common and definitely has its own disadvantages. When a child finds out the paternity test proves who they thought since a long time ago was not their true father, it can be very painful to them. This will ensure a sense of clarity and certainty for the man who feels the child is not of his offspring. There are many reasons for people to establish paternity; whatever the reason maybe just make sure you have the right person the first time. By comparing the genetic material of a child to that of any adults involved in the situation, there is a very good chance the parents can be found.
Did you know?
A simple dna home test can be a strong indicator of paternity of a man who can not afford the more expensive tests. Although most samples of dna collected for paternity tests are collected in a lab, it is possible to bring in a sample of dna for testing as well.?
A family can find out very quickly if there is a biological relationship between a child and a father with a paternity test. The most crucial thing about getting the results of the test is that; you will finally realize once and for all who the actual father of the child is. Although dna is as certain as ever for determining paternity, the people reading and analyzing the data can make errors. The most unreliable thing to do when taking a paternity testing at home is; getting a dna sample from the real father and telling someone else that they are the father.

How To Choose The Right Paternity Test

The last decade has witnessed the most impressive advancements in genetic technology. The proposal of deciphering the complete sequence of the human genome some 16 years ago has unleashed an ?arms race? between public and private ventures with no precedent in life sciences. In an implacable battle to publish the first draft of the complete human genome, a multi-national, publicly funded consortium and a large biotech company owned by the billionaire Craig Venter spend billions in developing new technologies that allow rapid and accurate sequencing of DNA. This brought enormous benefits for biological and medical research, and allowed for better treatments and diagnostic tools.

Genetic testing is one of the fields that greatly benefited from these outcomes. As we know from famous TV series, today is possible to finger out a criminal by analyzing a single hair or a tiny drop of saliva. A more widespread application of this technology is that of paternity testing. A doubtful father can easily order a DNA testing kit, take a sample of himself and his child and send it out to a DNA testing facility. In a matter of days, he will receive a report confirming of ruling out his biological fatherhood on that child.

Although establishing paternity is the most frequent reason for having a DNA test done, there are many other applications. For example, it is also possible to determine other familiar relations such as brother/sisterhood, maternity, paternity when the alleged father is not available and so on. People can also have a detailed analysis about their ethnic and genealogical background. These kinds of tests are often made out of curiosity, but sometimes they can be very helpful. It is frequent that people are excluded from certain benefits that are intended for a specific ethnic group, such as Native Americans because they cannot demonstrate their ancestry. DNA testing is an effective and conclusive way to prove a person?s ethnic ancestry.

So far, everything looks fine. You need to have a DNA test done, so you do some research online. What you will find is an overwhelming spectrum of DNA labs offering paternity tests, and of course, each of them claims that they are ?the best lab?. What to do? Pick the first you come across? Pick the cheapest? You don?t need to be an expert to decide, but knowing the difference among all those labs will allow you to make a wiser decision. Why is this important? The kinds of questions you seek to answer through a DNA test are not trivial. A man who is not sure if he is the true father of his children cannot accept a ?maybe? as an answer, can he? Well, that is what he?ll get if he chooses a cheap DNA test from an inexperienced lab.
All DNA tests are essentially similar in their bare basics: they are all based on the same biological principles and use the same kind of analytical methods. There are, however, some differences you should take into account.

One important difference is the number of genetic markers they look at. Genetic markers are simply specific regions in the human genome that tend to be different among people. Imagine there is a region for which there are 5 different ?types? among humans. You are most likely to have the same type as your father at the same region. However, since there are only 5 different types in the population, your are also sharing the type with many other people that are not related to you, so that looking at this single region will not tell for sure who your father is. If we look at another region, the chances for sharing both of them with unrelated people are lower, but it is still possible. As the number of markers increase, the probability of a random match (sharing the same markers with an unrelated person) is lower. The best paternity tests use as much as 16 different markers. Having a match for all 16 markers by chance is virtually impossible, so a perfect match conclusively tells that the two persons are father and child. Why not using even more markers? Because there is no need to (with 16 markers, the probability of a false result is nil), and adding more markers to the analysis would only make the test more expensive. Why not less than 16? Many labs use between 4 and 8 markers to make the test cheaper. By choosing one of these you may save a few dollars, but your doubts will not be completely wiped out. Do you find this acceptable? Surely not.
The second most important source of false results of DNA testing is, paradoxically, one of its strengths. DNA tests are based on a technique called PCR (for Polymerase Chain Reaction). PCR was a revolutionary invention that warranted its creator a Nobel Prize. One of the most important features of PCR is its sensitivity: it is possible to analyzed minute amounts of DNA (in theory it can be done with a single cell). On one side, one can analyzed DNA from a single hair, a tiny spot of blood or even from the saliva obtained from a used cigarette, but the high sensitivity has a downside: it is very easy that such small samples become contaminated with DNA from other individuals, such as the police detective that gathered blood spots at the crime scene, the lab technician who processed the sampled and so on. Truly professional DNA labs follow strict guidelines and protocols to avoid contamination and have University-trained personnel. In this regard, if you send your DNA sample to an inexperienced or ill-equipped DNA lab, you risk a false result since somebody else?s DNA may be analyzed instead of yours due to improper manipulation or use of cheap or defective lab materials.
If you are thinking of having a DNA testing done, being for establishing paternity, genealogical inquiry, determination of Native American status or other reasons choose carefully. Avoid labs offering very low prices. Check thoroughly to have an idea about the price ranges out there. Only labs offering a multi-marker (ideally 16 for the standard paternity test) tests should be trusted. Avoid labs that, judging from their websites appear to be small or amateur. Consider that some companies are offering ?ready-to-use? DNA testing labs that can be used by anyone to offer cheap DNA testing. DNA testing should only be performed by qualified personnel and equipment.
